Paper: Design of in vitro lung mucus-microbiota model to assess efficacy of inhaled antibiotics
Download PaperDr. Mahmoud H. Abu Elella is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Pharmacy, University of Reading, UK, from May 2021 to date. He has 10 years of research experience in the field of synthesis and characterization of a wide variety of polymer formulations for different applications, such as transmucosal drug delivery and wastewater treatment. His research experience focuses on the synthesis of novel polymeric formulations, such as grafted copolymers, hydrogels, scaffold materials, polymer nanocomposites, nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid nanoparticles, polymer-coated liposomes, nanoemulsions, polymer-coated silica nanoparticles, and microparticles. Dr. Abu Elella has excellent expertise in the characterization of the prepared polymeric samples using different physicochemical techniques, including FTIR, NMR, SEM, TEM, DLS, NTA, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, HPLC, and TGA/DSC. Additionally, he has expertise in ultrasonication technique for the preparation of green polymeric nanoparticles and exfoliated graphene nanosheets between polymeric chains. Additionally, the preparation of novel mucoadhesive polymers and their applications for different studies, including in vitro studies, and ex vivo animal tissues. In addition to recently developing mucoadhesive inhalable polymeric powders using two-fluid nozzle and three-fluid nozzle spray drying technique for pulmonary and nasal drug delivery. He achieved a strong track record in polymer science with more than 34 peer-reviewed articles as well as 10 book chapters in Elsevier, ACS, and Springer publishers with citation metrics (h-index 21 in Google Scholar). In October 2023, he was listed in the World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists list by the Standford University Ranking.
