Paper: Spray-Dried Powder Nasal Vaccines: A Novel Strategy for Combating Global Infectious Diseases
Download PaperDr. Hui Wang is currently a Research Scientist in the Aerosol Research Lab and Particle Engineering Group at the University of Alberta. His research interests are focused on inhalation formulation development, particle engineering, microparticle encapsulation of biologics, and advanced pharmaceutics characterization.
He obtained his BSc in Materials Science and Engineering from Southeast University in 2012. As an undergraduate he was awarded a National Scholarship (2010) for academic excellence and was recognized as a Provincial Outstanding Student Leader (2011). Under the guidance of Professor Reinhard Vehring, head of the Particle Engineering Group, Dr. Wang’s MSc and PhD research focused on designing and applying advanced characterization techniques for the testing and optimization of inhalation formulations used in pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDIs) and dry powder inhalers (DPIs). Several of his characterization techniques have attracted commercial interest, and many have been routinely used by pharmaceutical companies in formulation development. As a graduate student, Dr. Wang was awarded the Alberta Innovates – Technology Future scholarship for 3 consecutive years (2015-2018) for the great potential demonstrated by his research. In 2019, he was the recipient of the VCU Peter R. Byron Award recognizing excellence in research and defense of work at the annual Respiratory Drug Delivery (RDD) conference. After completing his PhD in 2019, he stayed on with the Particle Engineering Group, now with the Aerosol Research Lab lead by Prof. Andrew Martin, to work on various industrial global health and other projects related to respiratory drug delivery. He has gained rich experience in design, production, testing, and pulmonary delivery of medicinal microparticles.
Dr. Wang has published 30+ peer-reviewed articles and presented at 25+ international conferences. He is a recognized expert in his field, having reviewed for the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, Journal of Aerosol Science, and served as a guest editor for Frontiers in Drug Delivery - Respiratory Drug Delivery. His work is dedicated to advancing the field of respiratory drug delivery.
