Dr Chen Zheng is a senior research scientist at Cardiff Scintigraphics Ltd/i2c pharmaceutical services, a leading service provider for development of pharmaceutical formulations, inhaler devices and clinical gamma scintigraphy. Chen began his studies at Ocean University of China, where he gained a BSc in Pharmaceutical Science, and held a MSc in Drug Delivery from Aston University. He then completed his PhD in pharmaceutics and drug design from Cardiff University, researching excipients to improve pMDI formulations for pulmonary drug delivery. Following his doctoral study, he became a research scientist at Cardiff Scintigraphics Ltd/i2c pharmaceutical services, focusing research in aerosol formulation development involved in various of commercial, EU and UN funded projects including re-formulation of several CFC/HFA based inhaler formulations into novel propellant systems, and innovative application of inhalable aerosol light source for treatment of lung infections. He also took part in various of pre-clinical and clinical studies collaborating with CRO partners, and gained extensive experience in clinical gamma scintigraphy using suitable radioisotopes e.g. gamma-emitting isotopes such as technetium-99m and Indium-111 for in vitro and clinical evaluations of a wide range of pharmaceutical dosage forms and devices.
