Adeel Ahmed is a final year PhD candidate at the University of Hertfordshire. Adeel started his academic career with an undergraduate in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire where he had the opportunity to work in several academic projects that culminated in multiple publications. Alongside this academic experience, Adeel had a year in the pharmaceutical industry working as a quality control analyst at Eisai Limited. After graduating in 2019, Adeel joined the research group of Professor Darragh Murnane in the Department of Clinical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Hertfordshire. His project aims to develop a novel in vitro lung model that is an accurate representation of the human in vivo lung microenvironment for the assessment of drug candidates. Utilising the PhysioMimix® Organ-on-a-Chip Microphysiological Systems developed by CN Bio Innovations, the model introduces the perfusion of media to a complex culture of human cells creating a more human relevant microenvironment that can reliably reproduce human in vivo-like response. Alongside this model, Adeel has developed a novel LC-MS method for the analysis of drug compounds in cell culture media to accurately quantify drug transport across the model.
