Moritz Fleischhauer

Moritz Fleischhauer

Boehringer Ingelheim/ Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

Moritz Fleischhauer is a pharmacist by training and currently pursuing his PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology at Boehringer Ingelheim in collaboration with the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. His research focuses on the future development of Soft Mist Inhalers, using the Respimat® device as a model system.
His projects explore various strategies to enhance inhaler performance and patient usability. One of his initial studies investigated the effect of increased flow resistance on in vitro performance and spray characteristics. While not tested in patients, this concept is intended to guide users toward slower inhalation, which may improve lung deposition. His current research, presented at this conference, examines the feasibility of a novel nozzle concept for the Respimat® SMI, aiming to increase the delivered volume per puff through improved energy transfer. This could enable the Respimat® platform to accommodate a broader range of drug substances in the future, potentially including biologics.
Moritz’s broader research interests include the advancement of inhalation device technology, with a focus on design innovations that may enable new therapeutic applications in the future. He is particularly interested in how engineering improvements can translate into tangible patient benefits.
