José Sánchez

José Sánchez

AstraZeneca and Chalmers University of Technology

José Sánchez is an experienced statistician and Director of Statistics at AstraZeneca, a position he has held since June 2022. With a Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics from Chalmers University of Technology, Dr. Sánchez is an expert in early clinical trial design with specific interest in genomic data and biomarker analysis using machine learning and Bayesian methods.

Currently leading a team of statisticians in early Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM) biometrics at AstraZeneca, José is accountable for the design, conduct, analysis and interpretation of Ph1 and Ph2 drug projects. He actively engages in internal development workstreams, focusing on the implementation and advancement of statistical methods. Notably, José's contributions extend beyond traditional statistics, as he has been actively involved in the application of machine learning techniques to enhance the analytical capabilities of his team.

In addition to his role at AstraZeneca, José serves as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Chalmers University of Technology since February 2021. Here, he imparts his knowledge on the design and analysis of clinical trials, linear mixed effects models, and data science for biomedicine.
José's commitment to the field is further demonstrated through his role as the Swedish representative for the European Federation of Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry (EFSPI) and the EFSPI representative for the Swedish Society for Medical Statistics (FMS).
