M. Sc. Brunella Grassiri is a PhD candidate in Pharmaceutical and Bioactive Substances. During her PhD she deal with the development of topical (ocular, pulmonary, dermal) drug delivery systems. Her experience brings together aspects of synthetic chemistry, nanocarriers and biomaterials for biopharmaceutical purposes. She graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Pisa in September 2020, and subsequently passed the exam for licensed pharmacist. Brunella carried out her experimental master thesis under the supervision of Prof. A. Bernkop-Schnürch at Pharmaceutical Technology Institute of the University of Innsbruck. She started her PhD in November 2020 under the supervision of Prof. A.M. Piras and Prof. Y. Zambito. Her first year of research focused on microwave thiolation of cyclodextrins for mucoadhesive ocular applications.
From January until October 2022 she worked as a visiting PhD student at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland under the supervision of Prof. A. M. Healy and Prof. C. Herhaldt. During these months her research focused on pulmonary drug delivery systems and carried out in this aim two projects one of which she is presenting at DDL2022. For the presenting project Brunella collaborated with the University of Maynooth and the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, where she acquired skills in microbiological testing of antifungal API and formulations for pulmonary drug delivery on Aspergillus Fumigatus. Until now she is the author of four peer reviewed papers
