Italo Guilherme is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. His research focuses on medical aerosol science, quantitative imaging, experimental diagnostics, and respiratory device engineering. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Uberlandia and has experience in both academic research and industrial product development across medical technology and thermal-fluid engineering.
His current research develops and validates quantitative imaging methods to investigate aerosol transport phenomena, supporting the design of next-generation inhaled therapies with reduced environmental impact. His research is supported by funding from the Australian Research Council and Kindeva®. His work involves the use of novel high speed optical techniques to investigate droplet transport mechanisms in pressurized metered dose inhalers formulated with low-global warming potential propellants. He has identified new periodic droplet clustering mechanisms which help to explain some of the complex flash evaporation behaviours observed in low-GWP pMDIs.
Italo has published research on pMDI spray flashing using low-GWP propellants in the International Journal of Multiphase Flow and is committed to developing imaging technologies that improve respiratory drug delivery and patient outcomes.
