Alison Lansley is a Principal Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at the University of Brighton (UoB). She trained in pharmacy, undertook a PhD at UoB and then post-doctoral positions at UCLA and King’s College London where she took up a lectureship. Following a career break, she was awarded a Daphne Jackson Fellowship at the University of Sussex before accepting her current position.
With over 30 years’ experience in inhalation biopharmaceutics, Alison pioneered new methods for investigating absorption in the nose and lungs using airway cell lines cultured on permeable supports. She has used the models to investigate local inhalation toxicity and has explored how drugs and excipients influence mucus secretion and mucociliary clearance. A recent interest is the impaction of powders on mucus and other surfaces.
Alison previously led the MPharm programme at UoB and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a member of its Biopharmaceutics Focus Group. She teaches biopharmaceutics and formulation to undergraduate and postgraduate students and has supervised PhD students and postdoctoral researchers with funding from research councils, charities, and industry. She has published papers and book chapters on pulmonary and nasal drug delivery.
