Paper: Integrating innovative AI and Human-Relevant Models: Transforming and Accelerating Respiratory Drug Development

Download Paper Download Presentation PDF

Dr. Graham Clarke is a proven R&D executive with two decades of experience driving asset differentiation, accelerating development timelines, and reducing risk across pharma, biotech, and med tech ventures. His leadership in precision medicine and translational science has shaped drug development portfolios across Immunology, Respiratory, Infection, and Cardio-Thoracic indications.

As Head of Translational Science Portfolio & Platform Delivery at AstraZeneca, Graham led the design and implementation of the company's early-stage precision medicine infrastructure—directly enabling improved patient stratification, biomarker-driven clinical trials, and strategic CRO alliances across the R&I pipeline. Previously, as VP at hVIVO and Head of Respiratory Early Clinical Development at IQVIA (formerly Quintiles), he was responsible for the development and regulatory input to a suite of generic inhaled device studies for bioequivalence evaluation for the treatment of asthma and COPD. He pioneered novel biomarker platforms to address the validation of exhaled breath inflammation markers, over-seeing the deployment and integration of non-invasive breath monitoring devices, and launched new market offerings in Phase 1/2 services.

Graham holds a PhD in Respiratory Physiology & Pharmacology from King’s College London and maintains active academic appointments as Visiting Professor at King’s College London and Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College. He lectures on precision medicine, translational trial design, and R&D strategy, and was awarded the British Pharmacological Society’s Educational Prize for his innovative teaching on R&D decision-making.

An entrepreneurial leader with deep scientific credibility, Graham combines commercial pragmatism with scalable innovation—de-risking R&D investment while unlocking new opportunities for value creation across the healthcare ecosystem.
