Paper: Advanced Integrated Respiratory Models for Rapid Translation of Inhaled Therapies
Dr. Hui Xin Ong (YY) is a Research Leader at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in the Respiratory Technology group and a Research Fellow at Macquarie Medical School in Macquarie University. She holds a Bachelor in Pharmacy (Hons.) and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science from University of Sydney. Her research is focused on developing pharmaceutical and device technologies that can be used for the treatment of respiratory and infectious diseases, and methodological platforms that can help promote the translation of new discoveries to clinical practice.
Specifically, Dr Ong's expertise lies in studying the dynamic interactions between the different biological barriers in the respiratory tract and aerosol particles in a representative manner that captures the true nature of aerosol interactions in the airways. She has worked with diverse experts from academia and industry partners leading to development of various state-of-the-art pharmaceutical formulations and outstanding publication record in leading journals in the field.
In 2014, she was awarded the prestigious European Respiratory Society-European Lung Foundation Fellow to work at the University of Southampton (UK) and as an emerging leader in the field, she has secured multiple competitive national and international grants to support research projects and infrastructure. She is also currently the director of Ab-Initio Pharma, a formulation R&D and GMP manufacturing company in Sydney to help innovators take their novel therapies to clinic. Dr Ong’s well-rounded experience in industry focused research, applied and clinical research aims to translate her research into commercial outcomes that will benefit the healthcare sector and community.
