Anna M. Piras is Associate Professor in drug technology, socioeconomics and regulations at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. She achieved Laurea Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in 2002 and PhD in Biomaterials in 2006, both at the University of Pisa. She is member of the Council of the PhD program in Science of Drug and Bioactive Substances, and serves as vice-CAI (International Coordinator) for international programs at the dep. of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. Her teaching activities includes the courses in “Drug delivery strategies and technologies”, “Pharmaceutical technology / laboratory of galenic preparations”, “Advanced pharmaceutical technology and medical devices”, and “Quality assurance for pharmaceutical dosage forms”. She is in the editorial board of MDPI journal such as International Journal of Molecular Sciences, and Polymers. In 2006 she received the “European Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Doctoral Award” from the European Society for Biomaterials. Her previous work experiences included a position as scientist for the pharmaceutical industry KEDRION SPA and for the National Interuniversity Consortium on Material Science & Technology, Italy.
Her research interest regards pulmonary drug delivery and off-label drug administration, antimicrobials, design and characterization of macromolecular complex and polymeric nanostructures for targeted drug delivery and tissue engineering applications. She is co-author of 65 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 5 book chapters, 9 patents, and more 90 contributions to international conferences (including more than 20 as presenting author).
