DDL2017 Presentation Slides

Francesca Buttini is currently holding an Assistant Professor position at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Parma (IT) where she got the PhD title in 2004 and where now she is leading the unit dedicated to design of pharmaceutical products for inhalation. In 2014, she was appointed as Visiting Lecturer at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science of King’s College London (UK). In 2016 she has been affiliated as Key Researcher at the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering (Austria).
She works on the development of innovative pulmonary products such as solutions for nebulisation and metered dose inhalers, but her main research area is the formulation and testing of dry powder inhalers. She is an expert both in particle engineering and in development of carrier-based formulations. Several of her works were focused on the construction of antibiotic particles using a QbD approach; in this area the selection of the high payload device and the administration strategy were always set keeping the focus on patient convenience.
Up to date, she has published 43 original papers, 5 book chapters and 4 patents in the field of drugs and drug delivery systems and in the last years she received more than 25 invitations to lecture at international conferences.
Dr Buttini collaborates with many international institutions and with multiple pharmaceutical companies active in the development of pulmonary medicinal products. Among those, the continuing collaboration with Chiesi Pharmaceuticals has led to the deposit of several patents.
Finally, in 2013 Francesca founded with three colleagues PlumeStars, an innovative Startup, dedicated to development of orphan drug products to treat lung and systemic disease by inhalation therapy.
