Call for Papers is now open

Submission Deadline is Friday 15th July 2022 (at 23:00 BST)

DDL2022 will be held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (the EICC), with three days of  live lectures including internationally renowned speakers, presentations from submitted research, the prestigious Pat Burnell Young Investigator Award together with the Emerging Scientist Award.
This is your opportunity to share your new and exciting work within the field of pulmonary drug delivery.

The organising Committee would like to invite you to submit a 2 – 4 page conference paper for presentation at the meeting this year.
Selected conference papers will be invited to present either a Podium presentation or a Poster Presentation, live at the EICC.
As always, we welcome papers on all aspects of developing and testing inhaled drug products, with special focus on innovations in formulation strategy, analytical methodology and delivery devices.

We are also keen to receive papers that address the following themes that we hope to include in the conference programme:

How can we lessen the impact of the materials and processes we use to develop and manufacture inhalation products?

  • Environmental and sustainability initiatives in the supply and disposal of medical inhalers
  • Research perspectives and pharmacentric solutions to the carbon footprint of inhalers
  • Providing patients with the right information to enable guilt-free inhaler choice

How do we manage risk during the development of new inhaled medicines? Case studies and examples of new science and tools to guide (de-risk?) development through non-clinical and clinical phases, including:

  • novel computational techniques
  • in vitro and in vivo approaches
  • clinical methodology

There is a plethora of disease that affect the airways beyond asthma and COPD. The aim of this session to provide insights into:

  • Orphan lung diseases
  • novel treatments targeted to the lungs for the treatment of airway diseases
  • The challenge of delivering drugs into the diseased lung

Session 4.  The Pat Burnell young investigator competition

Early career researchers present their data from the podium in a dynamic interactive forum. Click here for more information on this competition.

Work continues on improving how we deliver drugs to the lungs and systemic circulation. The aim of this session is to share how following topics will improve patient outcomes:

  • Developments in devices technologies
  • New processes technology and manufacturing methods

The move to new drug modalities has driven innovation in how products are formulated. The aim of this session is to explore developments in:

    • novel formulations and excipients
    • how formulations are manufactured through the development process and into commercial supply
